Position Summary

The Shipper / Receiver is responsible for the accurate receiving, handling, storage, and shipping of materials and finished goods in a welding fabrication manufacturing environment. This role supports production by ensuring raw materials, components, and finished heavy equipment attachments and guarding are received, stored, and shipped safely, accurately, and on time.


Key Responsibilities

Receiving

  • Receive incoming materials such as steel, plate, tubing, hardware, and consumables.
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage, quantity, and basic quality compliance.
  • Report discrepancies, shortages, or damage to supervision or purchasing.

Shipping

  • Prepare finished attachments and guarding for shipment, including proper packaging, crating, and securing loads.
  • Load and unload trucks safely using forklifts, overhead cranes, or other material handling equipment.
  • Prepare shipping documentation including packing slips, bills of lading, and labels.
  • Coordinate pickups with carriers and ensure on-time shipment of orders.

Inventory & Material Handling

  • Store materials in designated locations to maintain organization and traceability.
  • Issue materials to production as required and track inventory movement.
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventories.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records in ERP or inventory tracking systems.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment (if certified).
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe shipping and receiving areas.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.

Communication & Coordination

  • Communicate with production, purchasing, and supervision regarding material availability and shipment status.
  • Support production schedules by prioritizing urgent material or shipment needs.
  • Assist with continuous improvement and 5S initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of shipping/receiving or warehouse experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Forklift experience; certification 
  • Ability to read packing slips, basic drawings, and work orders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in welding fabrication, steel distribution, or heavy equipment manufacturing.
  • Overhead crane experience and certification.
  • Experience with ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of packaging and securing oversized or heavy loads.
