ROLE OVERVIEW
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial records. This role involves preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end and year-end closes, and providing timely, accurate financial information to internal stakeholders. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Financial Recordkeeping & Reporting
- Prepare and post journal entries accurately and in a timely manner.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, bank accounts, and intercompany transactions.
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
2. Month-End & Year-End Close
- Support the month-end close process, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Assist in the preparation for external audits by providing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
3. Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
- Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and timely payments.
- Prepare customer invoices and apply incoming payments accurately.
- Assist in monitoring outstanding receivables and following up as needed.
4. Compliance & Controls
- Maintain proper documentation to support financial transactions.
- Adhere to internal controls and company accounting policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with operations, payroll, and other departments to resolve discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy.
- Provide financial information to management as requested for decision-making purposes.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- Participate in ongoing training to remain current with accounting standards and best practices.
7. Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks or special projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager, Controller, or other senior management.
