Position Summary
The Automatic Door Technician is responsible for the service, repair, and installation of automatic pedestrian entrance systems in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, a commitment to high-quality workmanship, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in the field. The Technician plays a key role in ensuring customer satisfaction through prompt and professional service delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Respond to service calls by diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, or replacing automatic door components.

Install automatic doors, door operators, and associated hardware, including glass, according to manufacturer guidelines and project specifications.

Perform preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and system diagnostics in compliance with AAADM standards.

Use mobile software to log service details, parts used, time on site, and travel information.

Maintain accurate inventory of parts and tools on the assigned service vehicle.

Communicate effectively with customers, project teams, and senior technicians regarding work status, technical challenges, and recommendations.

Conduct site visits prior to installations to verify measurements, confirm readiness, and identify potential challenges.

Assist in the identification and compatibility assessment of components and provide technical guidance on building code requirements when necessary.

Provide mentorship and guidance to junior technicians and apprentices as needed.

Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency service and after-hours support.

Follow all company safety policies and procedures and report hazards or unsafe practices.

Document completed work with reports and photos.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

Proficient in using hand and power tools (e.g., drills, caulking guns, pliers).

Familiarity with low-voltage electrical systems and motorized components.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams.

Competent with mobile software applications for programming entrance systems and submitting service reports.

Strong measurement skills in both metric and imperial systems.

Detail-oriented, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and minimizing rework.
Education & Experience
-
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification is a plus.

3–5 years of experience in the installation and servicing of automatic pedestrian doors.

An Active member of AAADM with a valid inspector certification
-
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
-
Mechanical and electrical aptitude essential.
Work Conditions

Field-based work requiring travel to client sites.

Exposure to construction environments and outdoor conditions.

Lifting, standing, climbing, and working in confined spaces may be required.

Participation in after-hours and on-call rotations.
