Job Full Description
This role is critical for running a safe and cost effective operation while ensuring commitments to customers are met. Reporting to their respective manager, Supervisors provide direct and daily contact with our frontline workforce, and are accountable for ensuring their productivity, safety, and engagement in the success of the operation. Strong communication and coaching skills are required to provide clear directions and goals for the team. A high degree of flexibility, commitment and leadership are required.
Major Responsibilities:
Safety (30%) ? Coaches employees on safe work procedures, holding all accountable to the goal of zero injuries and zero accidents ? Monitors compliance to rules through safety engagements (quantity is proportional to the size of the terminal) including proper feedback (both constructive and positive), take action on non[1]compliance, and documentation ? Executes job briefings before every shift identifying and correcting hazards, working conditions, clarifying expectations regarding work to be performed ? Identifies, supports and participates in Health and Safety committee initiatives.
Operating Efficiency and Customer Service (35%) ? Collaborates with external contacts such as transportation on pending arrivals and departures planning placements ensuring efficiencies for both parties ? Collaborates with management to plan workload based on respective pipelines, maximizing daily resources across all shifts ensuring consistent terminal fluidity ? Monitors employee productivity ensuring no unnecessary downtime and ensuring the labour force is right-sized for the daily operations ? As required, modify the plan to achieve the daily goals
People (20%) ? Manages employees within the bounds of the collective agreement where applicable, as well as local legislation ? Communicates goals and policies to create a clear understanding of direction and expectations ? Records all discussions/interactions related to performance ? Engages employees for positive results
Cost Control (15%) ? Balances daily operating decisions to maximize most cost effective solutions ? Identifies and mitigates hazards that could influence claims prior to any incidents ? Influences the culture of safety, by which the company is able to reduce and eliminate work[1]related incidents and injuries
Skills / Functional Knowledge
- Leadership skills including communication, planning, problem solving and decision-making. • Comprehensive understanding of safe rail and work practices is an asset. • High degree of commitment to safety is required. • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and process management. • Communication skills, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with clients, supervising staff and directing contractors. • Demonstrated strong leadership and teambuilding skills. • Work cooperatively with others while displaying a positive attitude to further the goals of the company. • Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy in a multi-tasking environment. • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and initiative. • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel/Word), SRS, SAP. • Ability to work independently or in a team-based environment. • Ability to hold people accountable. • Valid drivers license with clean record • Emergency Response Training (First Aid/CPR) Education / Certification / Experience
