Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Hybrid/Remote (Canada)

Reports To: Director of Assurance and Partner

About the Role

Our confidential client is a highly regarded Canadian public accounting firm that serves a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organizations. They are seeking a Senior Accountant with 3–5 years of experience in a small public practice setting.

This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and thrives in a client-facing environment. You will play a key role in assurance, tax, and advisory services, working closely with firm leadership to provide expert guidance and add value to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare working papers, financial statements, and year-end files in accordance with ASPE and/or ASNPO
  • Perform and oversee full-cycle accounting, including bank reconciliations, bookkeeping reviews, and journal entries
  • Prepare corporate (T2), personal (T1), and trust (T3) income tax returns
  • Participate in and lead aspects of review and audit engagements, including planning, fieldwork, and report drafting
  • Build strong client relationships through clear communication, timely support, and professional insight
  • Collaborate with partners and directors to ensure deadlines are met and services exceed expectations
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance workflow and client service

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation or near completion of the CPA PEP program (strongly preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience in a Canadian public accounting firm (small firm experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in CaseWare, TaxPrep, QuickBooks (Desktop & Online), and Microsoft Excel
  • Solid understanding of Canadian income tax, GST/HST, payroll regulations, and CRA compliance
  • Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Preferred Assets

  • Experience using cloud-based tools and client portals
  • Industry exposure to not-for-profits, professional services, construction, or real estate
