Position Summary

Our client is seeking a skilled Service Technician with strong electrical and controls experience to support press installations, disconnections/reconnections, interface programming, and troubleshooting at customer sites. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring high-quality installations, service, and customer support across North America and Mexico.

Key Responsibilities

a) Installations

  • Review electrical installations to ensure all purchased options are properly installed and operational prior to dispatch.
  • Travel across North America and Mexico for press installations and related service work.
  • Perform or supervise press electrical reconnects and interfacing at customer sites.
  • Support on-site assembly and integration of electrical components and subassemblies.
  • Lead troubleshooting and corrective action processes for press control builds, including documentation.
  • Conduct dynamic system checks and support final buyoff activities at customer facilities.
  • Provide hands-on training to customers for start-up, operation, and maintenance.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by identifying solutions and offering timely support.

b) Service

  • Provide in-field service, including warranty support, troubleshooting, and retrofits for electrical and control systems.
  • Perform upgrades to existing systems and ensure performance aligns with client expectations.
  • Document all service activities accurately and submit required reports and logs.
  • Manage and direct subcontractors when required.

c) General Duties

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Accept accountability for responsibilities aligned with the role.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management or leadership.
  • Diagnose and repair automotive issues efficiently and accurately.
  • Utilize mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot problems and provide effective solutions.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
  • Operate various power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with clients regarding repairs and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Weld components as needed for repairs or modifications.

Qualifications & Education

  • High school diploma (required).
  • Electrical apprenticeship completion with Journeyperson certification or equivalent experience (required).
  • Post-secondary diploma in trades or technical field (asset).

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Service technicians with both electrical and mechanical capability are strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in AB PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Siemens control systems (asset).
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with press systems (asset).
  • Strong understanding of engineering and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe operating procedures.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes and work at heights.
  • Experience with material handling equipment such as lift trucks and transfer carts.
  • Valid driver’s license and valid passport (required for travel).

Working Conditions

  • 40–60 hours per week, including overtime and weekend availability as needed.
  • Day, afternoon, night, and weekend shifts.
  • Work performed in plant and customer site environments.
  • Frequent travel required (within North America and Mexico).
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, loud noise, heat, and hazardous materials.
  • Regular use of hand tools, measurement instruments, cranes, and lift equipment.
  • Heavy lifting involved (up to standard safety limits).
