Job Full Description

Hospitality-Focused Retail Organization | Cannabis Industry

Our client is a growing, hospitality-driven retail organization with multiple locations across Southwestern Ontario. As the business continues to mature and scale, they are seeking a Recruitment & Retention Manager to lead talent acquisition, training, and long-term employee engagement across their stores.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for someone who is passionate about people, culture, and delivering meaningful guest experiences. This is not a traditional desk-based HR role; the successful candidate will be deeply embedded in the business and regularly present in-store.

Company Culture

  • Cannabis retail meets genuine hospitality
  • Customers are guests, never just transactions
  • Staff are educators and relationship builders, not order takers
  • The organization values curiosity, care, inclusion, and respect
  • There is a strong commitment to de-stigmatizing cannabis retail and treating it as a legitimate industry

Key Responsibilities

1) Talent Acquisition & Recruitment

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment from intake through hire
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies aligned with company culture and values
  • Identify and attract hospitality-driven, relationship-focused candidates
  • Partner closely with senior leadership on hiring decisions and workforce planning

2) Training & Development

  • Design, implement, and manage onboarding and continuous training programs
  • Coach, retrain, and develop employees at all stages of tenure
  • Address motivation and engagement challenges through structured development initiatives
  • Maintain training tools including SOPs, manuals, assessments, and review frameworks
  • Support the implementation and optimization of a digital and/or gamified Learning Management System (LMS)

3) Retention, Engagement & Culture

  • Drive employee retention and engagement strategies across all locations
  • Act as a culture champion and visible leader within the stores
  • Support internal mobility and role rotation to maintain engagement
  • Foster collaboration and team building across locations

Role Environment

  • Approximately 50% in-store / 50% office-based
  • Hands-on training approach - learning happens on the floor, not just in manuals
  • Embedded member of the senior leadership team
  • Regular travel between locations (not all at once)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 5 years of recruitment experience
  • Hands-on experience in training and development
  • Background in retail and/or hospitality-driven environments
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and coaching skills
  • Comfortable leading and engaging a diverse workforce
  • Experience working with digital HR systems and LMS platforms
  • Knowledge-based leadership style (expert-led rather than directive)
  • Genuine relationship with cannabis and belief in it as a legitimate consumer product

Technology & Systems

  • Experience working with HRIS platforms
  • Comfortable using Google Workspace for documentation and collaboration
  • LMS experience or strong aptitude to learn and optimize digital platforms

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field required

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Approximately 40 hours per week (overtime paid if required)
  • Availability required from 11:00am – 7:00pm a minimum of two to three days per week; scheduling flexibility is available
  • Salary starting at $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience
