About the Role:
Our client, a respected company in Guelph, is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable and Payroll Clerk to join their team. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and employee compensation. The ideal candidate will be proficient in financial software, possess strong analytical skills, and have a solid understanding of accounting principles and payroll regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable:
- Process a high volume of invoices, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and timely payment.
- Match purchase orders to invoices and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and process electronic transfers and cheque payments.
- Maintain accurate vendor files and reconcile vendor statements.
- Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve payment issues.
- Assist with month-end closing activities related to accounts payable.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and financial regulations.
Payroll:
- Process weekly payroll for 50-60 employees accurately and on time, including inputting hours, commissions, bonuses, and deductions.
- Maintain employee payroll records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Prepare and submit remittances for statutory deductions (e.g., CPP, EI, income tax) and other benefits.
- Generate T4s and other year-end payroll reports.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Stay up-to-date with provincial and federal payroll legislation.
- Assist with general ledger reconciliations related to payroll
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in a similar Accounts Payable and Payroll role.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Sage) and payroll systems.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and regulations.
- Excellent data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with a manufacturing environment.
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification or working towards it.
