Job Full Description
We are seeking a motivated Applications Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team that designs and develops custom mechanical solutions for clients across a variety of industries including advanced manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, entertainment, rail transit, and power generation.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys combining technical design, problem-solving, and cost estimation to develop innovative mechanical solutions that meet unique customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to develop complex mechanical equipment, tooling, and components to meet customer specifications.
- Prepare cost estimates for sales proposals, including estimating required production hours and material costs for custom equipment.
- Maintain and update key applications documentation including Project Estimates, Costing Data, Design and Work History, and Historical Inflation Data.
- Work closely with the Sales Team, providing technical support and assisting with proposal development.
- Review customer specifications and technical documentation, providing clarifications, comments, and exceptions where required.
- Participate in meetings and reviews during the proposal preparation and project evaluation process.
- Support the applications engineering team with document preparation, publishing, and formatting as needed.
- Perform engineering calculations using Excel to help specify mechanical systems including motors, steel beams, hydraulic power units, and linear actuators.
- Develop preliminary design concepts in SolidWorks to communicate engineering solutions to customers.
Skills & Qualifications
- Solid understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems design and integration.
- Experience using SolidWorks for mechanical design.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a focus on technical problem-solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated flexibility and sound judgment when working with changing priorities or evolving project requirements.
Education & Experience
- Relevant post-secondary education in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience with project cost estimating is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing or delivering technical presentations is an asset.
- SolidWorks experience is required.
