Job Full Description
We are currently assisting with recruitment for an Instrumentation Designer to join the team of a busy office in the Sarnia area.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to project proposals by developing cost estimates for materials and engineering hours
- Prepare Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) reports for instrumentation, automation, and electrical upgrade projects, including total installed cost (TIC) estimates
- Develop and review construction work packages, including electrical schematics, loop diagrams, instrument location drawings, and installation details
- Prioritize Safety, Quality, and Lessons Learned throughout all phases of project delivery
- Perform infrastructure design for Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Burner Management Systems (BMS), Fire and Gas Systems (FGS), general-purpose PLCs, and analyzer systems
- Design pneumatic, hydraulic, and relay control systems for specific industrial applications
- Conduct panel design for control and safety systems and prepare detailed material specifications to support procurement
- Review vendor proposals and participate in Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE)
- Support Functional Safety studies, including HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL verification activities for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
Qualifications:
- Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience
- Strong knowledge of field instrumentation and low/medium-voltage electrical systems in industrial environments
- Experience within the process industry, including petrochemical, refining, or related sectors
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (Intools/SPI) considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively contribute within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong commitment to safety culture and continuous improvement
- Willingness to travel and work at client sites as required
Wage: $30 - $45.00/Hour
