Job Full Description
We're partnering with Broder Electric, a leading electrical contracting company in Ottawa, to find a talented Estimator to join their team. As an Estimator, you'll play a critical role in driving business growth by analyzing blueprints, preparing detailed estimates, and managing subtrade work. You'll work closely with project managers to ensure project success and identify opportunities to increase profitability.
Required skills and qualifications
- Trades or electrical experience is an asset, but not required
- 1-3 years of Estimator experience is ideal, but transferable skills from other roles will be considered
- Strong analytical and procedural skills with attention to detail and precision
- Excellent judgement and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and ability to get along with others
- Bilingualism is an asset
- High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining a respectful and professional image
- Ability to handle stress, failure, and rejection with a sense of humor
- Analyze blueprints to estimate labor and material quantities for projects
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs (LOT summaries) for electrical, lighting, and specialty items
- Manage direct subtrade work and solicit quotes from trades like fire alarm, generators, and site utilities
- Review architectural, mechanical, and other trade documents to identify potential impacts on electrical projects
- Assess project profitability to inform business decisions
- Identify opportunities to increase project profitability and propose solutions
- Prepare and submit competitive bids in accordance with client specifications
- Maintain accurate records of past tenders, including outcomes and lessons learned
- Utilize estimating software to create and manage high-quality estimates
- Create comprehensive project handover packages and participate in handover meetings
- Work closely with project managers to evaluate labor and material costs and ensure project success
- Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position

Salary is commensurate with experience.
Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm, overtime is required at times depending on workload and deadlines.
