Job Full Description
Our exclusive client, a specialty manufacturing facility located in the South End of Ottawa (no bus access), is currently looking for a responsible and reliable Production Labourer to join their team. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a hot environment. This is a full-time opportunity with our client after probation through Express.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year experience in a physically demanding position (construction, landscaping etc.)
- Previous experience working in a heavy industrial environment preferred
- Must be looking for a long-term opportunity
- Ability to work independently / in a team
- Safety Conscious
- Good manual dexterity
- Eager to learn new skills and be cross trained into various departments
- Capable of lifting up to 50lbs on your own
- Must have a clean criminal record
- Comfortable working around a large industrial furnace – full PPE will be provided
- Own vehicle is mandatory as there is no public transportation available
- Must be flexible to start anytime between 6:00am and 7:00am depending on the needs of the business
Assets:
- Previous experience operating a forklift and having a valid certificate
- Previous experience operating an overhead crane
- Previous experience working in a foundry type / hot environment
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with packaging finished products into various sized containers
- Strap drums/containers and prepare them for shipping
- Load and unload trucks manually as well as with the use of a counter-balance forklift
- Use of a shovel to load raw materials into drums / containers
- Operate a counter-balance forklift as well as overhead crane to move large heavy items/products (will be trained / certified)
- Lift up to 50lbs on your own
- Maintain the shop or designated area in a clean and safe manner
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards whenever possible
- Assist with various projects and process improvement initiatives
- Other duties as required

The starting wage for this position is $27.00/hour, with an increase to $29.36/hour after probation upon joining the union. The ideal candidate is someone who has excellent work ethics, is dependable, and takes initiative.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Thursday - 7:00am to 4:00pm
Friday – 7:00am to 1:00pm
